I had an amazing 1 week adventure driving through the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles a few years ago with my then boyfriend! The trip took us through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the United States, including Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone, and more. Driving through these areas in a Prius was also an eco-friendly way to experience the stunning natural beauty of the region, while zipping down fast highways of big-sky-country.
First stop was the Zion National Park which is known for its wondrous majesty. The park is located in southwestern Utah and is home to stunning natural features such as towering cliffs, deep canyons, and lush forests. Visitors can hike along the park's many trails, including the famous Angels Landing trail, which offers incredible views of the park's stunning landscape. Overall, Zion National Park is a truly awe-inspiring destination that showcases the beauty and power of nature. We allocated only one day here as we had an itinerary filled for each day with lots of road in between. But we still managed to take one of the hikes through the red rocks. In the morning we also decided to drive through the canyon on our way out north-bound to see Bryce.
Bryce Canyon National Park is located about 4 hours from Zion National Park by car, but it's definitely worth the trip! Bryce Canyon is known for its unique geological formations, including the famous hoodoos - tall, thin spires of rock that protrude from the canyon floor. The park offers several hiking trails that allow visitors to explore the canyon's stunning landscape up close. We only managed to get the view from the rim of the canyon, where visitors can also take in sweeping views of the surrounding area. Overall, Bryce Canyon is a truly remarkable natural wonder that offers a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors.
That day we were headed to Yellowstone National park where we camped overnight. Sadly the weather didn't cooperate with us, and what was meant to be a fun evening roasting marshmallows ended up being a cold and wet night in our tent. Waking up was not fun as we had to pack our wet gear and figure out something warm to eat while our fingers were stiff. But we managed to get our day going, and somehow the weather cleared up.
Yellowstone National Park is a vast and stunningly beautiful park with many incredible sights to see. As the weather cooperated during our visit we were able to see Old Faithful and many of the colorful natural springs, which can be both breathtaking and dangerous - did you know that they are filled with algae that can live in boiling temperature? Driving from the south to the north through the park is a great way to explore its many wonders. Yellowstone is truly one of the world's most spectacular national parks and a must-see destination for nature lovers.
I've long thought about renting an RV and taking a much longer road trip through this part of America and stopping along other natural monuments that were not as close to our points.
